Martinborough
Wine of New Zealand.

The location was no accident. In a quest to make the highest quality Pinot Noir, Martinborough Vineyard founders conducted a DSIR survey to reveal the closest New Zealand climactic analog to Burgundy, the birthplace of Pinot Noir. The survey determined the optimal location was within a small rain shadow centered on the township of Martinborough.
THE BIRTH PLACE OF NEW ZEALAND’S
PINOT NOIR
As a result, the first Pinot Noir grapes in Martinborough were planted in 1980.
Today
Pinot Noir is the principle grape grown in the region, accounting for 50% of all grapes planted.
